This historically famous building is located in Badagry, Lagos State. Built by the Anglican Missionaries in 1845, three years after it’s foundation was laid in 1842, it continues to be a site of historical significance because of continued maintenance and preservation of originality.

Inside this building, Nigeria’s first educational institution, The Nursery of Infant Church, was established in 1843 by the Wesleyan Mission. Years after, in 1845 it became St. Thomas’ Anglican Nursery and Primary School, initiated by a member of the Church Missionary society, Rev. Golmer.

What is the Badagry?

The Badagry is a coastal town situated in Lagos, Nigeria. Some may only know it for of its beaches but asides from that, it is of great historical significance. In the early 1500s, it was a popular route used for slave trade. It was also through here that slaves were taken from West Africa to Europe, the Caribbean, North and South America. Today’s Badagry citizens

are made up of the Aworis and Egun people but before, in the ancient times, it was inhabited by the Ogu and Yoruba people. These citizens depend greatly upon agriculture, fishing, trading, and tourism as a means income.
