A controversial US Biblical scholar has claimed that the entire story of Jesus Christ was a fabrication.
Writing in a blog in his website, Joseph Atwill claims that the Roman Empire used the story as a hoax designed to pacify the poor and control them.
He writes: “Christianity may be considered a religion, but it was actually developed and used as a system of mind control to produce slaves that believed God decreed their slavery.”

Atwill argues that restive Jewish sects in Palestine were waiting for their pre-ordained messianic “warrior,” which implied that they were ready to fight against oppression.

The scholar writes: “Instead of inspiring warfare, this Messiah urged turn-the-other-cheek pacifism and encouraged Jews to ‘give onto Caesar’ and pay their taxes to Rome.“
