– IYC President, Eric Omare, said the Nigerian army has brutally rendered the people there homeless, burnt the community and killed many people.

Following the continuous denial of the Nigerian army over the onslaught on the civilian population of Ajakpa community in Ese Odo local government area of Ondo state, President of Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Eric Omare, has challenged the Nigerian army to organize a media tour around the community to authenticate the claim that the army did not destroy the community nor burnt houses of residents.

Omare, who expressed disgust over the action of the army, said life has become difficult for the rural dwellers, insisting that the army authority must be willing to carry media men round the community to convince Nigerians and the world that the allegation against the army is false and fabrication of critics of the Nigerian army.

Omare, who spoke with ZENITHBLOG.com on phone, said: “The people in the community are still under siege. The military is only denying the reality on ground. They are still there till today and the people are crying on daily basis. They have no food to eat and they have no water to drink.

“For the Ondo state government, when such things happen, state governments are usually under a blackmail. When military men are carrying out vengeance, the intervention of political leaders is misconstrued as covering up criminals.

“They

interpret government intervention as trying to cover up criminals. So, they stay away from them. Except it is only a bold leader that can challenge such action. As it is now, the people there are suffering and dying.

“If the army say there is no such pogrom, we are challenging them to organize a media tour of the area to prove that they have not destroyed the area as we are saying.”

From Monday May 1, 2017 when the army clashed with the militants in Ajakpa community leading to the death of Ossy Ibori, a deadly militant commander in the area, the community has not experienced peace.

.Following the shootout in the community, the military men attacked the community on Wednesday and allegedly burnt a large number of houses, while unspecified number of residents were reportedly killed.

The operation on the village carried out by Operation Delta safe killed the militant leader, in the process 15 members of the group were killed while three soldiers reportedly died in the battle.

It was gathered that some soldiers were later deployed to the community to ensure that normalcy returned, as well as find the fleeing members of the militant group.

But the narrative changed on Wednesday when the military men allegedly shot at residents and burnt houses.
