BREAKING: Angry LAUTECH students stop JAMB from conducting UTME in their school

– Students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oyo state have stopped candidates writing the 2017 JAMB candidates from entering the premises for their examinations

– The students are protesting the closure of their school

Enraged students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oyo state,has on Monday morning, May 15, prevented 2017 JAMB candidates from entering the premises of the institution to write their exams.

According to Nigerian Tribune, the students had mobilised themselves as early as 6.00 a.m. for the action, and stationed themselves in teams across all entrances into the institution.

The students reportedly barricaded all the entrances, thereby, preventing any movement in and outside of the campus and in the process also denying all

staff of the institution, both teaching and non-teaching were denied entry.

According to Tribune, one of the students who spoke under condition of anonymity said the students are “resolved to deny JAMB candidates entry this morning to let the world know that the on-going strike in LAUTECH is still on.”

As of the time of filing this report, all the gates leading to the campus were under lock and key.

Meanwhile, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) spokesperson has announced that a new record has been set by the body.

A record 1.7 million people have registered for this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The spokesperson said:

“We registered a number that has never been done in the entire 39 years of the existence of JAMB within a time frame Nigerians were skeptical about.”
