Be prepared for war, CAN warns FG over lingering herdsmen crisis

– The association also warned FG to either be prepared for war or prosecute culprits in the killing of resident of Kaduna and Benue communities by herdsmen

– CAN said until the suspects in the killings are prosecuted the unprovoked killings by herdsmen could spark war in Nigeria

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has warned the federal government over its inability to prosecute some of the herdsmen arrested in connection with recent killings in Kaduna and Benue states.

The association said the rising tension among residents of various community in the states and Nigerians as whole is due to government’s inability to prosecute culprits in the killing.

ZENITHBLOG.com gathered that the president of the association Reverend Olasupo Ayokunle speaking in Ado-Ekiti during a special service held at the First Baptist Church said such tension in the states can only reduce when these herdsmen have been made to face justice.

Ayokunle in his speech warned that failure by the government to stop the unprovoked killings by herdsmen could spark war in Nigeria.

He also said that the church must focus on its duty – to pary for Nigeria – to overcome all its social, economic and political problems.

If the government fails to stop the provocation by the Fulani (herdsmen), they should be prepared for war.

“There is a need to pray more for Nigeria because it is only prayers that can save

us. Let us continue to pray for the leadership of this country. But I want to urge the government to check the menace of the herdsmen in some parts of the country,” Ayokunle said.

“We are calling on the Federal Government to prosecute the herdsmen arrested in connection with the recent killings in Benue and Southern Kaduna because this will ease tension in the two states.

“We also want the Federal Government to investigate, through intelligence gathering, those unpatriotic Nigerians supplying the herdsmen with weapons being used to perpetrate evil.

“If the government fails to stop the provocation by the Fulani (herdsmen), they should be prepared for war. No ethnic group has a monopoly of violence and no ethnic group should be a monster to others,” he said.

ZENITHBLOG.com recalls that security operatives had on Monday, May 8, arrested 18 suspects during the attack on residents of Kabala-West and Ungwan-Mu’azu in Kaduna-South local government area of Kaduna state.

The special assistant to the Kaduna state governor Nasir El-Rufai on media and publicity Samuel Aruwan announced the arrest of the suspects.
