Every day, no fewer than 1000 young men are engaged in various activities at the market. Some bag the onions, others separate the good ones from the bad ones. There are those who sell the covers for the sacks, as well as those who sell the sack itself.
Others are saddled with the responsibility of loading the onions onto the trailers.
At Yauri, a large trade flourishes
Also present at the market are middlemen who intervene between the farmers and the merchants who buy the crop.
The market which is said to have been market has been in existence since 1950 is a sort of hub from which onions are now transported to many other locations both within and outside Nigeria.
