Details have emerged on why the deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Yusuf Lasun missed the London trip by National Assembly leaders to President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday, February 15.

According to Daily Trust, Lasun had an engagement with ECOWAS parliamentarians in Abuja which made him delayed his trip.

Some Nigerians had raised the issue about Lasun’s absence from the meeting when the pictures surfaced.

A statement by the Senate president, Bukola Saraki’s office had mentioned Lasun as one of those who will embark on the trip to see the president.

The report quoted sources as saying the visit was organized promptly by both the presidency and the National Assembly.

Speaker Dogara was said to have learnt of the trip late and had to

cancel his engagements at the last minute.

Many legislators were also unaware of the visit as the trip was said to have been organised discreetly.

But the deputy speaker’s spokesperson Wole Oladimeji said the deputy speaker would travel to London today, February 16 to join his colleagues.

However, it is unclear what the meeting was about or what was discussed.

President Buhari has been in London since January 19. The presidency had first announced that he was there for a 10-day leave. But he has since extended the leave on medical grounds.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari thanked all Nigerians after his meeting with the lawmakers.

“I thanked them for visiting. I’m also grateful to Nigerians, Christians and Muslims alike, for their prayers and kind wishes for my health,” the president tweeted.

In a related development, youths under the auspices of ‘I Stand for Buhari’ in Kano yesterday, February 15 held a prayer session for the quick and full recovery of the president.
