2. Fresh one-million-man anti-Buhari protests to hit Nigeria
The protesters are mobilising against Buhari
The protest is being organised by a civil society group called National Rebirth Group (NRG) and will be a one-million-man march against the economic policies of the federal government that the group described as “anti-people” and “inconsistent with democratic principles.”
3. Osinbajo launches 60-day plan to boost economy
Acting President Yemi Oinbajo has launched a 60-day national action plan to strengthen Nigeria’s economy which had for months been battered by recession.
This goal is expected to be achieved by the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) which is chaired by Osinbajo.
4. Naira firms to N500/$1 at parallel market
The Nigerian Naira has again gained strength at the parallel market as it now trades at N500 per United States dollar on Thursday, February 23.
The Naira gained 15 points to trade at N500 from the N515/dollar rate on Wednesday, February 22.
The local currency also appreciated against the Pound Sterling to trade at N600 from N620 and strengthened against the Euro to trade at N510 from N520.
5. Mimoko finally hands over to Akeredolu as Ondo governor
Mimiko handed over to Akeredolu
Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo state has finally ended his two-term tenure as governor and handed over to Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had won the governorship election in the state late 2016 after beating the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other parties.
6. Married woman publicly disgraced for stealing at a supermarket in Lagos (photos, video)
A married woman was recently caught in Lagos, as she was trying to steal from a supermarket.
According to the video which has now gone viral on the internet, the woman was seen kneeling down inside the store and begging the owner of the store to please forgive her but other people who were present at the scene, kept shouting on her and requested she should be taken outside.
7. Allegations against me made ‘no sense’ – Senate President Bukola Saraki
Saraki reacted to the new charges against him
The Senate President Bukola Saraki has said that the charges leveled against him by the federal government made no sense.
At his re-arraignment on Thursday before Justice Danladi Umar of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Saraki made his plea stating that all allegations in charges against were frivolous.
The Senate President said his trial is politically motivated and the allegations ‘made no sense’.
