The leadership tussle at the Assemblies of God church finally came to an end on Friday, February 24, 2017 with a ruling by the Supreme Court which affirmed the sack of Reverend Paul Emeka.
Emeka was first suspended by the General Council of the church and was later expelled, and he approached the Enugu state High Court where he got a judgement in his favour.
Not satisfied, Emeka went to the Supreme Court to challenge the appeal court judgement with the argument that his fundamental rights had been trampled on by the church. He lost as the justices unanimously upheld the ruling of the appellate court.
In their judgements, Justices Paul Adamu Galinje, Ejembi Eko, Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, and Clara Ogunbiyi, all ruled in favour of the church, a ruling that confirms Dr Chidi Okoroafor as the authentic general superintendent of the church.
