American society of safety engineers give major cause of building collapse in Nigeria

American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) listed lack of professionalism as the main reason Nigerian buildings collapse incessantly.

The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Nigeria Chapter, and Brickwall global investment limited, have fingered lack of professionalism as the major cause of incessant building collapse in Nigeria.

The Chief Executive Officer of Brickwall Global, Mr Uche Ahubelem, while hosting President and members of ASSE in Lagos said his organisation was worried over the rate at which buildings collapse in the country and was determined to find lasting solutions to the problem.

Ahubelem, according to Vanguard told ASSE that his organisation was built on professionalism and is not at risk of that which ails most building contractors in Nigeria.

Ahubelem while speaking to his guest said: “Ours is a company

that believes in standard and professionalism. In Nigeria today, a lot of people find it very difficult to attain quality standard, some don’t even take some time to understand why certain things are done in a particular way. That is why building collapse is now rampant.”

Meanwhile, a seven-year-old pupil is said to have died in a primary school building that collapsed in Guma local government area of Benue state.

Nyom Godwin, a pupil of Victory international Nursery and Primary School, Daudu, was reportedly killed when a section of a block of two classrooms collapsed on Tuesday, February 2.

Four other pupils sustained various degrees of injury from the incident.
