Some Nigerians have told former president, Goodluck Jonathan, to perish the thought of ever running for any elective office in Nigeria in the future.
The message to Jonathan follows a recent prediction by the former president that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will win the 2019 general election.
Some Nigerians have accused Goodluck Jonathan of plotting to return to government for the purpose of emptying the nation’s treasury.
Jonathan had made the statement on Monday, February 13, in Abuja when receiving a report from the strategy review and inter-party affairs committee of the PDP.
“Yes we lost the presidential election, but that doesn’t diminish us. Every other party still knows that PDP is a leading party,” said Mr. Jonathan who received the team in his House in Abuja.
“Losing the presidency is something temporary. We should be able to get that position back as long as we are able to get our acts together. I am happy that you people are working towards that,” he said.
Jonathan also said PDP remains Nigeria’s strongest and biggest party despite losing the 2015 presidential election, adding that current efforts at reforming the party are “a clear sign” the PDP will win in 2019.
But Jonathan’s statement has attracted criticism from some Nigerians on social media who accused him of plotting to return to government for the purpose of emptying the nation’s treasury.
Others blamed Jonathan for the current economic crisis being experienced in the country, and insisted that in saner climes the former president would be cooling his heels in prison over corruption charges.
