Power Oil WalkHeartOn 3.0 campaign which kicked off in the 2nd Saturday of July, 2017 has finally drawn its curtain after a successful engagement in 5 key cities across the nation.
It is an annual health promotion activity instituted exactly 3 years ago in Lagos State to promote fitness and healthy living amongst Nigeria; it has now further expanded into 5 cities across the nation (Lagos, Ibadan, Enugu, Port Harcourt & Abuja).
The Power Oil WalkHeartOn 3.0 campaign flagged off in Lagos on the 8th of July 2017. The walk continued in Port Harcourt and Enugu simultaneously on the 15th of July 2017 and moved to Ibadan and Abuja on the 22nd of July 2017 for the final walk to mark the end of the heart walk campaign for 2017.
Power Oil WalkHeartOn initiative is purely a heart health promotion project which encourages every Nigerian to lead and maintain a healthy lifestyle by taking a minimum of 30 minutes daily walk. The initiative mobilizes people to walk the distance of 5kilometers across different states in Nigeria.
‘Research has shown that “walking at least 30 minutes a day can help reduce risks of coronary heart diseases, stroke, breast and colon cancer” (American Heart Association), in the same vein the Nigerian Heart Foundation also corroborated the fact that “an active life ensures an active heart”.
Celebrities such as Sound Sultan, Funnybone, Mr. Raw, Woli Arole, Sanyeri and MC Bonus partnered with Power Oil to thrill and entertain the participants towards the success of the walkhearton 3.0 across the following locations: LAGOS, PHC, ENUGU, IBADAN and ABUJA. The comedians and Guest Artists in all cities also took active parts in leading the walk to encourage and demonstrate to the public the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle by taking a healthy walk towards a healthy heart.
Dignitaries present for the walk across the locations are Hon. Commissioner for Youths & Sports Oyo state, Abayomi Oke, Commissioner for Youths and Sports Enugu, Hon. Charles Ndukwe, Director for Sports FCT Abuja Mrs. Odili and Mr. Olatunde Ojo, Programme Manager, NHF (Nigerian Heart Foundation), other representatives from Min. of women Affairs & Social Development and the Min. of Health.
Power Oil HEALTH CAMPS were also available to all at each location, offering free basic medical checks for participants to ascertain their health statuses, including blood pressure, BMI and general medical consultation. A formal partnership flag off ceremony was equally held in Enugu between Power Oil Health Camp and the State Ministry of women Affairs & Social Development, to enable the health camp initiative reach out more deeply to the benefit of the indigenes of Enugu providing free access to basic medical awareness check.

LAGOS WALK – Despite the heavy down pour that flooded major parts of Lagos, the event witnessed massive participation, as people came out en mass to join the healthy walk which started and terminated at the National Stadium in Surulere.
The Lagos WalkHeartOn started from National Stadium towards Shitta Roundabout into Adeniran Ogunsanya Street to link up with Bode Thomas, then turning under Iponri bridge towards Alaka and finally back to the stadium.
ENUGU & PORT HARCOURT WALK – Registration of participants started in the early hours of the morning at both locations before the 5 kilometres walk kicked off in Enugu at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium into Ogui Road, towards Otigba round about and back to the Stadium, the walk was being led by the Commissioner for Youths & Sports, Enugu State Hon. Charles Ndukwe. While in Port Harcourt movement started from the Liberation Stadium into Elekahia Road towards roundabout around the Air force junction and back to the Stadium.
ABUJA & IBADAN WALK – The 5 kilometres walk which recorded a huge turnout at both locations started off in Ibadan at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium into Liberty Road; towards Challenge roundabout and back to the Stadium, the walk was being led by the Honorable Commissioner for Youths & Sports, Oyo State Barr. Abayomi Oke, along with the invited artistes, while in Abuja movement began from the River Plate Park Wuse 2 into Ahmadu Bello Road towards the Adetokunbo Ademola roundabout and back to the park.
And at the end of the activity in some locations, visits were made to the orphanage home to extend that maternal love and affection to the children with products and food.
