Former President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan has reacted to the killings of worshippers at the St. Philips Catholic Church, Ozubulu, in Anambra state.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, August 8, Jonathan said he took his time to react to the news in order that he could be accurately briefed on the truth of the matter.

He condemned the killings and expressed shock at the incident, describing it as not known to the Nigerian culture of respect and reverence for religious places of worship.

“I condole with the survivors and the families of the victims and pray for the departed. In order to endure that such occurrences never reoccur, we must rededicate ourselves to our principles of being our brother’s keeper and that without delay,” the ex-president wrote.

Jonathan also lamented about the release of a song celebrating hatred against Igbos in the

north.

His words:“Given that a similar song is what ignited the Rwandan genocide, as a nation, we must not take these reports lightly. I urge the security services to do their utmost to nip this wickedness in the bud.

“As I have said previously, we must understand and accept that all Nigerians are brothers and sisters born from the womb of one Nigeria. May this be uppermost in our minds as we pray that God may bless Nigeria.”

In a related development, Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki said the killing of worshippers represents the purest kind of evil, and the security services must not stop until the perpetrators are brought to justice.

“Our security forces must not stop until everyone involved in the orchestration and execution of today’s massacre in St. Philip’s Catholic Church, Anambra are brought to book by the strong arm of justice,” Saraki said in a statement sent to ZENITHBLOG.com.
