A trip down Memory Lane
Erigga, whose birth name is Erhiga Agarivbie was born and raised in Warri of Delta State, Nigeria. He grew up with his sister in a single parent family that was headed by his mother. The rapper is well-educated as he had completed primary and secondary school.
While growing up, Erigga did not always want to become a rapper, before, he had dreams of becoming a professional basketball player. In his more active days, he participated in the Milo Basketball Championship and was a player on the Delta State Basketball Team. It was not until he was finishing secondary school that he decided to venture into the music industry. His decision to enter the music industry was inspired by Fifty Cent, Eminem, Jarule, Rakim, Canibus, and Nas just to name a few.

Erigga and the music industry
Besides the stage name Erigga, he is also affectionately called “The King of the South”, “Paper Boi”, and “Erigga New Money.” His first single, Jungle Party, was released back in 2002. When he just came onto the scene, his raps were in English but he later switched to Pidgin because he realized that more people were able to understand it and relate to him.
Growing up in the streets also influenced his decision to spit bars in his local language. Paper Boi is not an overnight one hit wonder, he has been building his career-long before the two thousands. He took part in rap battles in Warri, Benin, and Port Harcourt and won over twenty-four in total while gearing up to burst onto the music scene.
Erigga is a hard worker and as a result, he earned himself several music awards in Benin and Warri of Delta State and a place in the rapidly growing music industry. He also received nominations for ‘Lyricist on the Roll’ and ‘Best Street Hop’ in 2012.
Erigga was signed to the Heavy Weight Emergence record label New Money Entertainment that is owned by Snow Man for four years. Since then he has done numerous collaborations, he enjoyed his productive cooperation Sean Tero, whom he believes brings a great energy that leads to a next hit.

Controversies
Although Erigga is very lyrical, he sometimes receives backlash and his music is not given enough airplay because of its vulgarity. His music is for a more mature audience. Back in 2010, he erupted onto the music scene with a music video titled “Dem No Get Two Heads”. This video has some graphic content and was shot by Igho Tosin of Igho Films. The fact that it was so explicit struck curiosity all over the country and as a result, it received over five thousand views in the first week it was uploaded on to youtube.
Erigga was lucky enough to produce music with one of Nigeria’s legendary heavyweight producer, Law Low. The two produced a single entitled “Won Be Be” and its music video was shot by the same director, Igho Tosin of Igho Films who helped create the early controversy as mentioned before.
Besides all these songs, Erigga has pennedover one hundred songs while serving time for a juvenile misdemeanor in his home state, Warri.
