Confusion in APC as party chieftain accuses former governor of anti-party activities

A former gubernatorial candidate of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the 2011 elections in Abia state, Prince Paul Ikonne, has accused a former governor of the state, Orji Uzor Kalu, of engaging in anti-party.

Ikonne who addressed a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, August 3, stated that the activities of Kalu are affecting the APC’s electoral chances in the state.

ZENITHBLOG.com gathered that Ikonne had earlier raised an alarm on the caliber of politicians joining the APC in Abia state, especially when the former governor joined the party in November 2016.

“Those things I predicted have started playing out and that we will not take. I raised serious concerns because of the antecedents of such politicians especially the former governor of Ania state, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu.

“It has come to our notice what he is scheming. He is hobnobbing with the present governor in the bid to pitch his brother to run with the governor as his running mate in 2019.

“Another of his brother is to run for the House of Representatives to represent Aba Federal Constituency.

class="align-left">“This is a total evil plan against Abians, It is devilish and it is an act I know Abians will resist and APC members also will resist it,” he said.

He stated that the APC in Abia state is growing, adding that more sincere and focused people are joining the party.

He cautioned chieftains of the party not to engage in activities that will scare people from joining the party.

He said: “The party is getting stronger and positioning itself to win elections. He cannot impose any candidate in Abia APC. He should know that he is unpopular and this kind of idea cannot fly.

“He cannot be in the APC and at the same time, parley with the governor for his brother to run as deputy governor in 2019.

“He should concentrate all his efforts in his Abia north senatorial zone and try and win there.”
