How diversion of N2 billion ecological fund caused Benue flood

– Benue state capital, Makurdi has been submerged in flood since on Sunday, August 27

– The issue was caused by lack of action from the immediate past administration in the state

– More facts have emerged on why the situation has gotten worse

The chief press secretary to the Benue state governor, Mr. Terver Akase has said the diversion of N2 billion ecological fund the federal government released to the state in 2013 for the construction of drainage channels set the stage for the current flood ravaging mot parts of the state.

Mr. Akase stated this on Thursday, August 31 during an interview with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria on the flood that has hit parts of the state.

He said available records as uncovered by a commission of inquiry set up the government uncovered that N2 billion ecological fund was released to the state in December 2013, positing that if the money had not been diverted into private pockets but expended on the purpose it was meant for, the magnitude of the present flooding would have been averted.

He stated that the Benue state government got Nigerian Meteorological Agency’s (NIMET’s) warning and swung into action, but was incapacitated by the current economic crunch in the country, noting that opening up of water channels commenced and adequate sensitization carried out.

While sympathizing with those affected by the flooding, Mr. Akase said the state government is saddened over the unfortunate development.

He stated however that the fight against flooding is a collective one that needs the cooperation of all Benue people by avoiding indiscriminate dumping of refuse, urging the people to also avoid blocking of drainages or building on waterways.

President Muhammadu Buhari has asked emergency workers in the country to immediately proceed to flood-ravaged areas of Benue state with personnel and resources.

Buhari, who is currently in Katsina state for the Sallah celebration, said he was concerned about the situation in the north-central state as over 100,000 people were rendered homeless.

A statement obtained from the presidency by ZENITHBLOG.com stated that the president said he received the reports of the flood which affected 12 local governments with great concern.

Top Ankara and Lace combinations for ☛ gorgeous Nigerian women

Ankara styles are quite beautiful on their own, with the huge variety of colors and patterns. However, many women are willing to make their look even more interesting by adding something new or mixing various designs. In this case, we are talking about the combination of ankara and lace styles. Continue reading to find some interesting ways of combining ankara and lace.

Ankara dress

Ankara and lace combination styles

Ankara and lace

As we all know, ankara is one of the most popular styles in Nigerian fashion. This makes sense since the fabric is always bright and colorful. Each outfit is unique and usually quite eye-catching. However, there is a way to make the outfit even more interesting by creating a combination of ankara and lace styles.

But why lace? The reason is that this material is classic and very elegant. It is perfect for “light” outfits like dresses and blouses. It makes the outfit more charming and trendy. Now, the question is; what look you can create by mixing the ankara and lace styles?

Ankara dress with lace elements

Elements

The first and most common option. The lace is usually used to make bottom of skirts, collars, sleeve or various parts of the dress (like adding some lace in the torso area). It adds an interesting touch to the ankara patterns. Ankara is usually more predominant in these outfits. Some examples for you:

1. Look at those beautiful colors! And can you see the lace? It is used to make the bottom of that flawless skirt!

Colors

2. We’ve told you that lace is used to decorate various parts of the dress. For the version that you see below, the designer added some interesting touches to the waist, skirt and arms. Have you seen a similar design before? We haven’t!

Red lace

3. An interesting variation here. The skirt is mostly made of lace which adds an amazing shape to the dress. And don’t forget to get your makeup right!

Blue and red

Lace dress with ankara elements

If you are more into lace than ankara, you can try this option, which looks great! We bet that you’ve seen a lot of gorgeous lace dresses, but usually they follow only one pattern and one color. But how about adding some ankara to it? In this case, ankara is usually used to decorate the skirt or to underline the waist. Some inspiration for you:

1. This outfit can be called a combination of combinations! It can come in form of skirt and blouse or it can be a lace dress with an ankara dress underneath the waist. However, it is still mostly lace dress with ankara elements. Nice colors though!

Blue and white

2. The perfect combination of lace and ankara – just look at those patterns! Everything is well combined and the lady looks flawless!

Perfect

Lace dress with ankara ornaments

In this case, you can’t really call it a combination of styles, like the two previous ones. Here, we have a lace dress with little addition of other fabric. It looks beautiful and it is a great option for important events. Get some inspiration with these dresses:

1. It can be challenging to make lace with ankara ornaments and a big part of ankara is the color. However, there is a nice example of ankara ornaments on a lace dress!

Ankara ornaments

Lace dress on ankara dress

Another interesting option. It is known that usually lace dress is worn on top of something else. The reason is that lace is fragile and the fabric can be too revealing. Wearing ankara dress underneath a lace dress is a great idea for those who want to add details and edginess to their outfit. You can combine colours and patterns to create a more interesting look.

1. Very original combination of colors, don’t you think? However, the design looks great!

Black and yellow

2. More black lace! This time it is hard to spot the ankara ornament. But the dress is still gorgeous!

Black and white

3. Don’t forget to add some accessories – it will make your look complete. However, there is no need to put on a lot of makeup.

Interesting colors dress

Ankara skirt with lace blouse

And last but not least – the ankara skirt with lace blouse. This option is entirely different from the other three. This is an interesting combination that can create different looks, depending on the colours and patterns. This is also the easiest way to divide ankara styles and lace styles – by putting a lace blouse at the top and the ankara skirt on the bottom.

Remember that it should not be the other way around – a lace skirt is often too revealing. Sure, you can wear another skirt underneath, but it won’t be the same. Here are some cute examples for you:

1. Interesting combination – an ankara skirt with a top and a lace blouse. Looks great!

Skirt and blouse

2. Blue and yellow is always a good combination! The stars on the skirt are making the outfit more fun and the blouse is complimenting the figure. Great option!

Blue and yellow

3. Lace on the top and ankara on the bottom, don’t forget that! And look and the gorgeous pattern on the skirt – those colors are remarkable.

Lace bottom ankara

Ankara and dry lace combination styles

Sometimes the term “dry” lace can be quite confusing. But you should know that lace and dry lace is the same fabric. There are different types of lace which vary by how they are made. For example:

– Knitted lace;

– Needle lace

– Chemical lace;

– Bobbin lace;

– Machine-made lace.

And a host of others. Not all types of laces are suitable for creating an outfit, because some of them are quite delicate.

Green lace

The combination of ankara styles and lace styles is getting more trendy. Below you can see interesting and colorful looks. Use them as your inspiration when it comes to creating your own outfit.

1. Lace blouse and an ankara skirt – what can be more trendy?

Black

2. There is no such thing as too much lace! It looks gorgeous in this dress, especially with the nice blue color.

More lace!

3. There are some exceptions to the rules – you can wear a lace skirt and long as it’s “private” enough. Don’t get too radical with the lace!

Yellow

4. Oh my, lace always looks good in blue. That’s all we can say about this gorgeous look.

Blue dress

5. There is no need to go “full lace” when it comes to outfits. You can choose a dress with small decorations on the top and bottom. You will look classy in a dress like this!

A little bit of lace

As you can see, there are a lot of different and interesting options that you may find inspiring. Try to create a new look by combining different styles and people will notice you!

12 Nigerian states capable of producing 6,000MW of electricity

Recently, following the power failure that interrupted business at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, (MMIA), Lagos, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has apologised to Nigerians.

ZENITHBLOG.com gathered that the power failure at the airport grounded activities for more than one hour before the battle to restore light in the ever busy airport was successful.

The state of power in the country is a source of concern to many. A Nigerian man posted on Facebook that there was enough solar irradiation to generate a significant amount of power.

He said: “There is enough solar irradiation in Nigeria for a land area of 3km by 3km full of Solar Photo-Voltaics to generate 500MW in each of the following twelve states: Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, Borno andPlateau – 6,000MW in all.”

Meanwhile, Nigeria is currently using the 4,600 megawatts of electricity but there are ongoing projects by the government to increase this output and add at least 340MW before the end of 2017. Nigeria as a nation has suffered a lot when it comes to the availability of electricity.

However, the federal government has promised to increase the power output by launching several power plant projects.

How Port Harcourt pastor prepared a pot of okro soup with N500 (photos)

ZENITHBLOG.com earlier reported how some Nigerians have been debating over the possibility of making a whole pot of soup while spending as little as N500.

A Port Harcourt-based pastor, JD Kosita-Madu, has joined in the trending debate over if a whole pot of soup can be made with as little as N500.

After some ladies took to social media to talk about how it is very possible to make an actual pot of soup with that meagre amount, Pastor Kosita-Madu decided to verify from his own end.

According to him, he went to the market, bought the ingredients he needed to make the ‘economical soup’, made the soup and came to the conclusion that it was possible indeed.

The pastor went ahead to share his experiences and the lessons he learnt. See below:

By now, I guess you all know I am #voltron. I love to stand up in defense of people especially when I don’t understand the reason they are being vilified and or bullied.

A young lady, thinking she was being helpful, posted how she used 500 naira to cook okro soup. All hell broke loose and people made fun of her calling her unreasonable and unrealistic and a liar. It didn’t help that another lady posted that she had tried it and it was possible. That one too received her own fair share of ridicule….surprisingly, more from women.

But because I remember how, thirty years ago my mother had to re-adjust and cook at a very low budget after my father’s thriving businesses were closed down by a certain man who is now una oga at the top, I believed the women.

Anyway, I decided to try it. I went to the market myself and contrary to insinuations that you can’t get smoked fish for that price, I actually got for 200 naira….Yes, and I live in Woji, Portharcourt. (oil city)

So, I bought the following ingredients as given by one of the ladies. Mind you, I did not use anything already in the house…Not even salt…I bought everything.

Smoked fish… 200, okro… 50, ugu… 50, crayfish… 50, palm oil… 40, salt (packet, so I didn’t use allow)….50, maggi… 20, pepper.. 20, onions… 20.

Exactly 500 naira. Believe me people, it is delicious and here it is. I cooked it myself…and yes I am a very good cook. Before you add me with the ladies in the ridicule, (and that’s okay), kindly see what I have learned from this….

1. Before you conclude that something is impossible, try it.

2. It is essential to learn to be creative in survival skills peradventure you experience a season of lack and you cannot buy your ingredients in Spar.

3. Those that cannot go to a restaurant to pay 3000 Naira for a plate of food for breakfast, lunch and dinner, still have access to nutritional food…Don’t rubbish them.

4. Many of us need to come out from the castles we have put ourselves in and go into the real world to appreciate that life goes on even without opulence.

5. Whatever your budget, food can be on the table.

A lady was surprised to see Apostle Jay, that she sees only on television, in the market. When I explained my mission, she shocked me by saying that with as little as 400 naira she makes Isam (periwinkle) soup for her family.

So, here it is… Fresh okro and ugu soup with smoked fish made with exactly 500 naira ingredients…. My life’s creed?: Until I have disproved a thing, scripture says to walk in love because love according to 1Cor.13:7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
