See where kidnappers operating in the N’Delta are coming from

Governor Okowa of Delta state has said that kidnappers operating in the Niger Delta are not from the region

– Okowa also said his partnership with the security operatives in the state has helped, to a great extent, reduced activities of kidnappers in the state

– He assured that the prevailing peace in the region following the halt in bombing oil installations will lead to increment in funds being made available to the state

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state has said that most of the kidnappers that operate in the southern part of the country are not from the zone, just as he said the activities of kidnappers have been brought to the lowest ebb in the state.

Okowa also said following the police onslaught against the kidnappers and the passing of the anti-terrorism bill into law, kidnappers will have no hiding place in the state.

The governor spoke when he received senior management staff of the Petroleum Training Institute, a federal government institute in his office in Asaba, the Delta state capital.

He told the visiting team that following the signing of the bill into law, the judiciary has been very proactive and the setting up of six special courts have aided the arrest and trial of kidnapping suspects and “we are confident that the issue of kidnapping and related offences would be a thing of the past in the state.

Meanwhile the governor has assured of his administration’s partnership with security agents to ensure the

entrenchment of peace and security in the state and the Niger Delta.

He said working with all the security agencies, the state will be effectively secured. He commended security agencies for their protection of oil facilities in the region, this is even as he gave special recognition to the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps in the state.

He expressed hope that the halt in the destruction of oil installation in the Niger Delta would not resurface again, noting that the development would bring more funds to the state.

He said: “We thank God that peace is returning to our state and our nation and by the grace of God, we will find ways to assist the security agencies, we are very hopeful that we will have a better year, 2017 which will translate to improved revenue to our nation and our state for developmental projects.”
