Some aggrieved former civil servants stormed President Muhammadu Buhari’s house in Katsina state on Monday, January 30, protesting against delay in their re-engagement or payment of their benefits.

The representatives of about 3500 erstwhile employees of local government councils in the state, who were disengaged before the implementation of the last national minimum wage about five years ago, presented their grievances to the state governor, Aminu Bello Masari, represented by the Secretary to the Government of the State (SGS), Mustapha Inuwa, at the gate of the governor’s office.

The aggrieved former civil servants disclosed that their appointments were terminated under the previous administration in the state following the outcome of staff verification exercise when their appointments were yet to be confirmed, Leadership reports.

They also reminded the governor of his campaign promise to examine the possibilities of regularising their appointments or paying their benefits.

Addressing the former civil servants, Inuwa said a committee has been inauguarted to look into the circumstances that led to their dismissal.

According to him, the committee did not recommend their re-engagement neither did it recommend payment of any benefit to them, but the government would explore how those eligible among them for appointment in the civil service could be re-engaged while others would be assisted by the government to cushion their hardship.

He called on them to be patient if not they would risk being offered immediate benefit at the expense of a long term solution to their plights.

Inuwa added that the state government was committed to making life better for the entire people of the state.
