Breaking: Gunshots rock Kano as road workers clash with traffic officials (photos)

Kano state, on Wednesday morning, January 18 was rocked with gunshots as staff of the state road traffic agency clashed with road union workers, Vanguard reports.

The gunfire exchange, which lasted more than 20 minutes, started when the road traffic agency, popularly known as KAROTA, attempted to bar the road union workers from loading passengers from Zaria road roundabout.

The incident triggered pandemonium as comutters and passer bye scampered for safety.

Witnesses said the road union workers set tyres on fire and kept on shouting at the road traffic agents, who were backed up by policemen.

The witness said: “On seeing the danger around, policemen fired 15 gunshots to disperse the motorists and workers around.”

The source further said that

“the plan eviction met a stubborn resistance and armed security were called in to contained the situation” As at the time of this report, burn fire rages enveloped the skyline of the effected area .

Speaking with Zenithblog.com, Salihu Tanko Yakasai, the media aide to Kano governor confirmed the incident.

The police Public Relation Officer (PRO) in Kano, DSP Magaji Musa Majia pleaded for time to ascertained the true pictures of the security breach.
