According to NAN, the governor, who made the announcement on Saturday, January 28, at the Edo Agribusiness Workshop in Benin said the establishment of the ranches would prevent attacks on farmers and their farms while also being a source of income for the state government.

Obaseki said: “I would like us in the state to have at least one ranch in each local government; that will seem to address the issue of the alleged notorious activities of cattle herdsmen in parts of the state.
“Since the truth is that people are just looking for grazing land, so why not let’s organize it properly and make money out of it.
“I think it is one proposal we will look at, I think it will be more cheaper than doing modern moats around our farms.
“It is an issue of concern and I think we should seriously look at creating ranches for grazing across the breath of the state as an option.”

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Ugheli, Delta state Diamond Emuobor has urged Christians to ‘own swords’ and defend themselves against herdsmen attacks.
Emuobor said the attacks by suspected Fulani herdsmen cannot be left undefended.
“Christians should defend themselves and he who has no sword, should sell his coat and buy one to defend himself.”
