– South-East youths for Governance have urged Igbo leaders to heed to the call by ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo that it was the turn of Ndigbo to produce President

A group under the aegis of South-East Youths for Good Governance, on Thursday, February 9, urged political leaders in the zone to heed the call by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, that it was the turn of Ndigbo to produce President come 2019.
This was disclosed by Comrade Agusi Ndubueze, the national coordinator of the group, in Owerri, Imo state capital.
Speaking to Vanguard, Ndubueze said he was surprised that some Igbo leaders turned down such an opportunity that the zone has been looking for.

He added that 2019 could be a time to negotiate the Igbo interest.
He said: “We want to start by saying that President Olusegun Obasanjo was right in his call for Ndigbo to contest the 2019 presidential election. Whether you take it serious or not, he has said the reality and all concerned must work on it.
“We are not also happy that some people left the issue and attacked the messenger at a time the Igbo are being relegated to the background politically.
“If we continue like this, I do not think that we will get what we want in this country. How many Igbo leaders have thought it wise to go back to their homes and reason deeply on this agenda of Igbo presidency?”
He added: “The Igbo should join hands and support each other to use this opportunity that is staring them in the face. Let us vote for the interest of the nation and not the party. The development of the nation is paramount and not individual interest.
“We, therefore, urge leaders from the five states of the zone to convene a meeting of elders to look into this agenda, with a view to coming out with a common stand and decision on how to strategize ahead of 2019 for the Ndigbo.
“We are not going to relent until our elders in Igbo land come in terms with the reality that it is the right time for the zone to act.
“If they cannot speak, we will help them. What we want is for them to come out boldly for this journey and we the youths from the zone will back them.”
