Governor Samuel Ortom has said his administration is in control of the security situation in Benue state.
Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state has said his administration is ready to pay monetary compensation to herdsmen whose cattle are killed or rustled to allow peace to reign.

Ortom made the disclosure in an interview with Vanguard recently, when speaking on the security situation in the state and his relationship with herdsmen.
The governor who blamed the recent killings in the state on his former aide, Gana, said the alleged suspect has been declared wanted.
He said: “We are proactive and we are on top of the situation here in Benue state and I can assure you with this renewed spate of attacks not from herdsmen, but from Gana who is killing people and because he is being sponsored by some people, we are going after him.”
The governor said the paying compensation to herdsmen who whose cattle had been killed or rustled was a proactive way preventing crisis.
He said: “Government is proactive and ready, we have enough personnel, and equipment to track these people. And where we are not able to track them we are even ready to pay for damages.

“Recently the case of a herdsman whose 57 cattle were killed and 50 rustled, was reported to me and paid N10million and even up till today we have not apprehended the youths behind the attack, but if we see them we will arrest them. But we had to pay just to allow peace to reign because if they come for reprisals those youths who did the evil will not be there.”
ZENITHBLOG.com recalls that Ortom said that despite the utterances of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state against him, he would continue to pray for him (Wike) to succeed in the tedious task of governance.
Ortom was reacting to Wike’s statement where he called on the federal government to declare state of emergency on Benue over the killings in the state.
Wike had said that his Benue counterpart – Samuel Ortom was making a mockery of his position in the way he is handling the herdsmen crisis.
