Mathew Hassan Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, has denied getting close to former president Goodluck Jonathan for money or favors.
In an interview with The Interview, Kukah said: “Despite my friendship with Jonathan over this long period of time, we never discussed a penny, we never discussed one dollar; we never exchanged a penny, and we never exchanged a dollar.”
The popular bishop also said that those who misinterpreted his relationship with Jonathan, did so because they wanted to smear his reputation and get closer to President Muhammadu Buhari.

He said: “Suddenly, journalists whom I knew were writing, hoping they would be given positions (by Buhari) and all those who were abusing me have gone full cycle.
“Those who should be ashamed of themselves are those who took money from Jonathan, tons of it, and have decided to lie, buried under the table; they have decided to change course in the middle of the race. Those are the guys who you should be talking about.”
In a recent report by In a recent report by ZENITHBLOG.com, the outspoken preaacher said most men of God in Nigeria now live in opulence and very far from the same poor people that God has put under their care.
He said that while Nigeria is currently being ravaged by poverty mostly emanating from an economic recession and alleged unfavourable policies of the government.
Many Nigerians have also had cause to cry out over the wealth paraded by pastors and other preachers in the country while their followers cannot afford good meals.
