– They are alleged to be plotting to move the Dockyard Jetty for the university to Rivers state, their home state
– Hence, the community leaders warn them against the alleged plot as its consequence could be catastrophic
Chairmen of Gbaramatu communities in Warri south west local government area of Delta state have raised the alarm over alleged plan by Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, and the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime and Safety Administration (NIMASA), Peterside Dakuku to move the Dockyard Jetty meant for the Nigerian Maritime University Okerenkoko in Delta state to Rivers state.
Chairman of Kokodiagbene community, Sheriff Mulade, who made the call on behalf of the chairmen, said Amaechi and NIMASA boss were trying to undermine the prevailing peace in the oil rich Niger Delta region should they go ahead with the alleged plan to relocate the Dockyard of the Nigerian Maritime University, Okerenkoko being manufactured abroad to Rivers state.
While pouring praises on President Muhammadu Buhari for his commitment to the smooth take off of the Nigerian Maritime University in Okerenkoko, Mulade warned that nothing must be done by those he described as “enemies of the region” to frustrate the efforts of the president.

He said: “We the peace loving people of Gbaramatu Kingdom are calling on the federal government, security agents and international community to kindly call Rotimi Ameachi and the Director General of NIMASA Peterside Dakuku to order to avoid another round of crisis in the region. We want to strongly appeal to them to allow the people of the region to enjoy the relative peace in the area.”
Mulade added: “It will interest the whole world to know that the Transport Minister and the NIMASA DG have secretly perfected arrangement to move the Dockyard Jetty being constructed overseas for the Nigerian Maritime University Okerenkoko, in Gbaramatu Kingdom to Rivers state.
“We are warning them not to create unnecessary tension in the region which we are not prepare for at this crucial time when all efforts are being made by the government to bring lasting peace to the region.”

While blaming Amaechi for “the unnecessary crisis that rocked the oil and gas industry in the region as a result of his display of political and ethnic hatred for the people particularly the Ijaws”, the community leader enjoined all and sundry to assist the president in his peace efforts in the region.
According to him: “It is unfortunate that those in government who are expected to support and assist government to achieve the desired peace and development are those creating crisis for reasons best known to them and such people must be checked now.”
