What are cancer types?
There are different types of cancer. Cancer is a disease characterized by the appearance of uncontrolled dividing cells that are capable of invasion into adjacent tissues and metastasize to distant organs through the bloodstream and lymphatic system. The disease is associated with impaired cell proliferation and the genetic disorders.
There are a lot of types of malignant tumors (more than 100), which are classified according to the organ in which there was a primary tumor. For example, malignant neoplasm of the colon is called colon cancer, and cancer originated in basal cells of the skin, is called the basal cell cancer.

• carcinoma – a malignant tumor that affects the epithelial cells. Carcinomas may develop in any tissue structure, comprising epithelial cells, such as skin or tissue, which covers the internal organs.
• sarcoma – a malignant tumor of the connective tissue. It appears in bone, cartilage, fat, muscle, blood vessels, or other connective or supportive tissue.
• leukemia – a cancer of the hematopoietic system. It starts in hematopoietic tissues, such as marrow bone. Malignant cells enter the bloodstream and spread through the blood vessels.
• lymphoma – the malignant cells, which are formed in the lymphatic system of the person.
• central nervous system cancer – a disease during which malignant tumor forms in various tissues of the brain and spinal cord.

What are cancer types?
The most common type in this list is lung cancer. Depending on the type of tumor cells, doctors distinguish two varieties of lung cancer: non-small cell and small cell. Malignant tumors of the colon and rectum have a lot in common, so they share a common name, ‘colorectal cancer’.
Cancer prevalence statistics can vary greatly depending on the country. For example, in Russia, Asia and African countries, there is the high incidence of gastric cancer. However, most data is gathered in the USA.
