– An aide of Borno state governor said governor Shettima has ordered his personal driver and all drivers of his convoy to obey all traffic laws and stop whenever the traffic lights turn red
– According to the governor’s aide, rather than let anyone chauffeur him, the governor sometimes drives himself too
Unlike several government convoys who drive carelessly and sometimes harm innocent pedestrians in their haste to get to their destinations, Governor Kashim Shettima has reportedly ordered his convoy drivers to obey traffic laws and stop at every red light.
An aide to the governor, Mr Yusuf Usman Shettima, who once witnessed the governor ordering his driver to do this wrote about this on his Facebook page.
According to the aide, when the governor got to the traffic light post, he ordered his driver to stop and told the driver that: “Stop and henceforth, you must stop the car whenever the traffic light stops you.”

Shettima’s aide said that: “Since then, even when the convoy is moving and even where a part of it had passed, as soon as the red light appear, his driver or the first driver to see the red light stops because the Governor’s driver had passed the new order to all other drivers in the convoy.”
The aide also said the governor sometimes drives himself and when he does, he still obey the traffic light.
“On one fateful morning at about 6:13 am, I was in the Governor’s entourage, he was driving his car because mostly if the outing is a private one, he drives his car and lead the convoy. But to my greatest surprise, he suddenly stopped and we all stopped although there was no single car coming from all sides of the traffic light but because of the red light sign that appeared.
“I was surprised by that gesture of his and while I continue to be, I was also told that he stops even if it is in the night when he goes out unscheduled to inspect projects.”
The aide who shared a picture of a part of the governor’s convoy said: “In this picture, one could easily asked where is the leading part of this convoy?
“He is humble, he is gentle, he is law abiding and he is Hon. Kashim Shettima.”

The governor said several wars that shaped the history of mankind were not ended without cases of people dying, not from the bullets of the enemy, but by friendly fire of their own soldiers.
He further said he accepted the Rann camp accidental bombing that led to several deaths of internally displaced persons as an unfortunate accident.
