The Afenifere Renewal Group (ARG), a Yoruba group, has criticized the northern governors’ plan to open a register for immigrant herdsmen whom they said are responsible for attacks on Nigerians.
The governors had earlier made a claim that the herdsmen involved in the ongoing killings in southern Kaduna are not Nigerians but immigrants from Mali and Senegal.
A statement by ARG spokesperson, Kunle Famoriyo, on Friday January 28, accused the governors of shying away from the truth. ,

Famoriyo said: “It is shameful that the Northern Governor Forum could not even pretend and hide its readiness to sacrifice the rest of Nigeria for Fulani interest in its veiled reference to ‘national integration and cohesion’ as the solution to herdsmen menace.
“ARG is therefore gravely concerned that state governors who swore to protect Nigeria’s constitution are the ones promoting alien interest.”
According to Premium Times, the group also criticized Kaduna state governor, Nasir Elrufai, for his recent comments on Aljazeera TV that herdsmen who were responsible for the deaths of Nigerians must be accommodated because Nigeria is signatory to ECOWAS’s treaty on trans-humane pastoralist protocol.
It queried why ECOWAS treaties are only obligatory where it concerns Fulani interest as there are other treaties that Nigeria has ignored.
