Rice farming in Nigeria
In order to improve food sufficiency in the South-East of Nigeria, the federal government through the federal ministry of agriculture, has concluded plans to site two rice plants, one cassava processing plant and one palm oil plant in Imo state, precisely in the Nzerem community, Ehime Mbano local government area of the state.
This was revealed by the transition committee chairman of the Ehime Mbano LGA, Chike Ojiako, on Saturday, January 21, while he was addressing journalists.

Ojiako who was celebrating the anniversary of his one year in office, said the state governor Rochas Okorocha and the senator representing Imo-North, Benjamin Uwajumogu, were working in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture to make sure the project was sucessful.
He also revealed that Nzerem community was chosen for the project because of its rich soil, landmass and exploits in
Ojiako, who is also an APC chieftain also said that the proposed industries would make Imo state the model in agricultural revolution in the zone.
He concluded that the current exchange rate of naira to the dollar was a blessing in disguise because it would encourage local industries and spur small and medium scale enterprise owners to work harder.
Meanwhile, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a supervisory councillor for Agriculture in Mafa local government area of Borno state, Umar Ibrahim; and four others for the alleged diversion of 300 bags of rice donated by Danish Refugee Council, a Non-Governmental Organisation and meant for Internally Displayed Persons (IDPs) in the council.
