Senate president, Bukola Saraki, has called for urgent security measures at all potential targets across the country to prevent Boko Haram insurgents from carrying attacks on soft targets.

Just in: Saraki reacts to UNIMAID bomb blast, gives solutions to end bombings

Bukola Saraki has called for security to be further strengthened around all educational and allied institutions.

Saraki made the call on Monday, January 16, in reaction to the bombing of a mosque inside the University of Maiduguri during which a professor of veterinary medicine was reportedly among the casualties.

The Senate president in a statement by his special adviser on media and publicly, Yusuph Olaniyonu, in Abuja decried the loss of valuable human lives and destruction of property during the incident.

He said the rising trend of isolated Boko Haram attacks on soft targets since the liberation of the Sambisa Forest has created fears among Nigerians, Nigerian Bulletin reports.

Saraki said in spite of the obvious defeat of the insurgents, pockets of attacks are still being perpetrated by the fleeing remnants of the

outlaws.

He called for security to be further strengthened around all educational and allied institutions to prevent re-occurrence following the attack on the institution.

He prayed for God to grant repose to the souls of the departed and quick recovery for the injured

The Senate president also urged Nigerians to be more vigilant and security conscious.

Similarly, President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his sadness over the bombing at the University of Maiduguri.

In a statement through his special adviser on media and publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the president said the perpetrators have no understanding of the religion they claim to be operating under.

Buhari also reached out to those affected in the gory accident.
