Ex-militant leaders want NDDC boss sacked

NDDC boss Nsima Ekere is allegedly not doing his job right at the Commission.

Ex-militant leaders in the Niger Delta have expressed their displeasure at the way the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Nsima Ekere is handling the affairs of the body.

The Sun reports that the repentant militants under the umbrella of Leadership, Peace and Cultural Development Initiative (LPCDI), a nongovernmental organisation, has protested against what it described as Ekere’s ‘incompetence’.

In a statement signed by its chief press secretary Barrister F.O. Wainwei, the group accused Ekere of stockpiling funds of the commission allegedly to further his ambition to become a state governor.

The group has not urged President Muhammadu Buhari to remove Ekere and put someone more competent and concerned about the Commission’s duties.

The statement read in part: “Nsima Ekere, is not competent to run the affairs of the commission because on assumption of office, without any course has refused to consult with critical stakeholders in the region on the way forward with respect to the development of the Niger Delta region.”

It added: “We urge President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately sack Nsima Ekere and replace him with a competent person from an Oil bearing community in Akwa Ibom state, someone who can discharge his functions passionately and without sentiments for the betterment of the entire Niger Delta region. A man who will consult widely and carry all stake holders along rather than engaging in selective empowerments.

“Nsima is only interested in using his office to enrich his cronies, family members and himself at the expense of the Niger Delta region which he is appointed to serve.”

Just recently, Professor Yemi Osinbajo paid a visit to Oporoza community, the headquarters of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Delta state as a way to find peace in the troubled Niger Delta region.

The vice president was billed to visit key areas in the region and The Nation reports he went to Gbaramatu on a fact-finding mission.
