Endris Mohammed, 46, has been charged with murdering his two children Saros Endris, eight, and Leanor Endris, six, in a house fire.

Mohammed, who will also face a charge of attempting to murder their mother, Penil Teklehaimanot, was found in a burnt-out Vauxhall car in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, after a blaze broke out at his family home, 40 miles away in Hamstead, Birmingham on October 28.

Mohammed was charged on Tuesday night after he was interviewed for the first time since his release from hospital, where he was being treated for burns.

According to Detective Sergeant Nick Barnes the children had been sleeping downstairs in the living room with their father the night before they died.

Both youngsters were found in their home in the early hours of October 28 after the blaze, and were pronounced dead in hospital

His son Saros Endris, eight, and daughter Leanor Endris, six, were dragged out of the burning property by their neighbors and were later found ‘lifeless’ on the lawn by firefighters.

Post-mortem examinations were carried out on the children and forensic tests are ongoing to establish the cause of death.

West Midlands Police said Mohammed will appear at Walsall Magistrates’ Court later.
