JUST IN: Armed men storm Owerri high court, kill prison wardens, escape with gang member (photos)

A report by The Authority quoting eye witnesses say a group of armed bandits invaded the premises of a High Court in Owerri today, January 27 and made away with their gang member facing court trial.

The report added that a number of prison wardens were killed in the shoot out.

Meanwhile, a report by New Telegraph indicates that the lawyer representing the General Overseer of Reigners Bible Church, Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, has been shot.

The lawyer whose name is Obong Ini Eko represents the general overseer of the church, Apostle Akan Weeks.

Reigners Bible Church collapsed last year, killing 26 people on December 10, 2016.

The collapse of the church led to a Panel of Inquiry being set up by the Akwa Ibom state government.

According to the report, he was shot on both legs by the gunmen, who stormed his Osongama Housing Estate home, around 2:27p.m.

It was gathered the gunmen forcefully gained entrance into the lawyer’s compound after pulling down the gate.

Ekpo, who is currently receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of an undisclosed hospital, has been defending Weeks since the inauguration of the Commission of Inquiry on December 15, 2016.

Reacting to the news, Akwa Ibom state police command spokeswoman, Cordelia Nwawe said she was yet to be briefed on the shooting incident.
