The House-of-God is supposed to be a house-of-prayer and a place of spiritual guidance and upliftment, however, the events of these days speak otherwise.
Many have seen hell in the hands of pastors and priests who they believe will show them heaven.
Many Christian faithfuls of these days are being misled by people who are supposed to be men-of-god. These fraudsters have found a way to twist religion and serve it as sweet wine on which the people get intoxicated that they do not think rationally anymore.
Below are two real life stories that tell of the devilish times in which we find ourselves. After the stories, are 5 key reasons why you might need to stop going to your church.
Recently, a pastor, Mr Timothy Ngwu, was docked at an Enugu North Magistrates’ Court for allegedly converting another man’s wife and daughter as well as another woman to his wives.
Veronica Ngwu, the pastor’s wife was said to have petitioned the court over the development. The victims whom Ngwu converted to his “wives’’ were said to be members of his church: Gods’ Favor Ministry, Nsukka.
One of the victims, Mrs Calista Omeye, however, told the court that her husband, Mr Fidelis Omeye, had persuaded her to meet the pastor as he wanted her to do the will of God through the pastor.

“My husband was a member of the church and he introduced me to the church, because he said that the pastor had a revelation for me (Calista). She said the revelation had to do the will of God but he later left the church but I refused to leave the church with him.
“I have 10 children for him and we were all members of the church before he quitted and I had a baby for the pastor but the baby died after some weeks,” she told the court.
She said that it was with her husband’s consent that their daughter was given to the pastor in marriage.
“It is not true that I gave out our daughter in marriage to the pastor without the consent from my husband, he was aware of everything,” she said.
The pastor who hails from Ihe-Owerre, Nsukka, was absent from the court as he was said to be on admission at an hospital in Enugu. The presiding magistrate, Mrs R.I. Oruruo, adjourned hearing in the matter to Sept. 26.
In a similar development, Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, on Monday remanded Rev. Fr. Anthony Ochigbo, Parish priest of Church of Assumption, Asokoro, in police custody for the alleged defilement of a 10-year-old girl. Ochigbo was arraigned on a one-count charge of abuse.
The Upper Area court judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, adjourned the case till Aug. 30 for ruling.
His counsel Godwin Chukwukere had applied for his bail pursuant to sections 158, 162, 163 and 164 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA).
Chukwukere urged the court to grant the defendant bail because he was still innocent until proven otherwise.
He said even though the offence was not bailable, Section 162 gives the court wide powers to grant bail in cases like this.
The counsel urged the court to exercise its discretion in favour his client, adding that the defendant was on administrative bail and would not jump bail if granted.
The prosecutor, John Ijagbemi, opposed the application, saying that the defendant was not given administrative bail.
He urged the court to discountenance the application and remand the defendant in custody.
Earlier, Ijagbemi had told the court that Grace Ibong of Kuruduma village, Asokoro, Abuja, reported the matter at the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, on Aug. 17.
He said after a church programme in the said church, the defendant asked the complainant to leave her 10-year-old and eight-year-old daughters to spend the night with him, which she did.

He further said when the complainant went back to the defendant’s house to pick her children, she discovered an unusual movement from her 10-year-old daughter on Aug. 15.
Ijagbemi said when the complainant asked her daughter why she was moving unusually, the victim said that the defendant forcefully had carnal knowledge of her without her consent during the night.
He said the offence contravened Section 283 of the Penal Code. The priest pleaded not guilty.
With so many claims and counter claims which tends to continually drag God’s name in to the mud, below are 5 reasons why you must either leave your church for another or completely stop going to church.
5. No concrete sermon
If all they say in your church are the things that are popular, the things that everybody wants to hear, then you might be in a very wrong church. It is said that the word-of-God is a two-edged sword, it should pierce a person’s soul such that they can die to sin and to resurrect in the faith of Christ.
4. Every day is for tithe
If all your pastor or prophet does is to tell you to sow seed and pay tithe, well you might as well call yourself another philanthropist. Prosperity and tithe preaching is definitely not all that you go to church steadily.
3. Class separation and neglect of the poor
It is said that before God, everyone is equal, however, not every church operates on this principle. Hence, if in your church there are special seats for the rich and the other for the middle class and another section for the masses, then you must either quit your church or stop going to church entirely.
You must be sure that whichever church you belong to does not have the class iussue where there are pharisees, Sadducees and scribes, all drawn away from the plight of the common people.
2. Unnecessary Night vigils
If you belong to that Christian group that fasts and goes to church everyday for night vigil, then I wonder which other time you have to put your life in perspective. Even Christ did not fast and do all night prayers everyday.
Sometimes we pray that God helps us do the things we can do for ourselves.
There must be time for many other things, ask yourself how would you who is seeking the fruit of the womb get one, when you barely have chance to make babies with your spouse?
1. Unbiblical rites and rituals
When stories like a married woman going to live in a pastor’s house for deliverance pops up, or a story of a man’s wife allowing herself to be bathed by a prophet, one wonders why God gave humans brains, if not to think properly.
You can blame it on desperation, however, there is no excuse for why one should allow him/herself to be molested in the name of religion.
If your church still believes in rites and rituals that are not in line with the principles of the bible, then maybe its time to change that church.
Having a fellowship with one’s self would have been proffered as a solution to all the inherent problems that religion has caused this world, however, the Christian Holy Book says do not despise the gathering of the brethren, however, if one must go to church, then we must ensure it is one whose principles are based on the bible and the bible only.
