Jim Obazee was not popular until he decided to enforce the corporate governance code which compelled Pastor Enoch Adeboye to step down.
The code stipulated a term limit of not more than 20 years for heads of churches in Nigeria and Adeboye had to appoint Pastor Obayemi as the national overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) since he was appointed 1981, and had spent more than 20 years as leader.
Obazee was fired as the executive secretary of FRCN by Buhari on Monday
This quickly sparked reactions from several quarters and many frowned at the decision.
On Monday, January 9, President Muhammadu Buhari fired Obazee as the executive secretary of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN) and appointed Daniel Asapokhai to replace him.
Obazee is said to have courted several controversies and below are some of his ‘sins’.
1. He dared the powers that be
The FRCN is one of the parastatals under the supervision of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment. It was learnt that the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Okechukwu Enelamah, had asked Obazee not to implement the controversial code but he refused the instruction of the minister and turned a deaf ear.
2. Suspended the chairman of Stanbic IBTC
In 2015, Obazee suspended Atedo Peterside as chairman of Stanbic IBTC. He also imposed a N1 billion fine on the bank.

5. Obazee and controversy with the Church
He was a zonal pastor of the RCCG but was reportedly suspended for four years for his disgraceful action. It was recently that he warned religious bodies particularly churches to make their financial statements public or they will stripped of their status as non-profitable organisations and be listed as profitable entities.
However, religious bodies feel it is wrong to be compelled to disclose their accounts publicly and are in court against the FRC to seek redress.
