Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and National Orientation says that Nigeria’s problem is about leadership and attitudinal change

The minister said this when the Senior Citizens Advocacy Network of Nigeria, SCANON paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja on Thursday January 9.

According to the minister, the federal government will engage the retired civil servants into building capacity for youth while striving for sustainable development, Vanguard reports.

He also disclosed that the federal government, in efforts to tap from the group’s wealth of experience, would partner with the senior citizens through the ‘Change begins with Me campaign.’

He said: “Continued engagement of the senior citizens is what is lacking in our society today in Nigeria. Unlike in other climes, where people volunteer to assist government, whom government had spent huge sum of money to train.

‘‘It will be nice if you can partner with various ministries of government to provide mentoring and training to the younger ones.

‘‘WE need your experience in all aspects of life because your services are needed at this critical moment of our nation building. You can help government counter the narratives out there.

‘‘We are meant to use our differences to complement one another in Nigeria. Our problem is about leadership and attitudinal change. You must help us to reach Nigerians to understand that there is no other place to live except Nigeria.

‘‘We must use what we have to move this country forward. On our part, we will use our platforms to support your programmes,’’ he said.

In his reaction, Dallatu Ayuba, Chairman of SCANON told the Minister that the purpose of the visit was to seek partnership with his ministry on ways to go about imbibing attitudinal change in the society.

‘‘No believe that no nation enjoys accelerated and sustainable development without an attitudinal change. Therefore, the ‘‘Change Begins with Me’’ campaign spearheaded by your Ministry is fully supported by SCANON.

‘‘SCANON believes that to get out of the woods we as Nigerians must change our attitude, put on our thinking caps and see how we can partner with your ministry in sensitising the public against the vices contributing to our economic and security downturn.

“Our vision, which can be translated to mean the mental picture of a preferred future, will go a long way in building a Nigeria of our dream,’’ he said.
