Fun facts and controversies
♦ Two years ago, rumors started circulating about Bola Tinubu’s health. Some claimed that he has been battling something resembling Parkinson’s for more than a decade. He also had to take an urgent trip to the United States that many thought it was health-related. Although, upon his return, Tinubu disproved those rumors, claiming that he was in good health.
♦ As if to prove the previous point further, this happened. In March of 2017, it was announced that Tinubu was to spar in a boxing match against Evander Holyfield, former World Champion in heavy weight. The match was a charity event that was intended to attract international attention to numerous problems of the African continent, especially serious diseases in children.
The 54-year-old former champion and 65-year-old former governor were supposed to fight on May 24. But when the date of the match rolled in, Tinubu didn’t show up! Even though a lot of people thought Asiwaju got too scared, he has issued an official apology, where he stated that he had some “national assignment” to take care of.
♦ Despite only being the National Leader of the APC, some people claim that Bola Tinubu has become much more than that. It has been said that he tells the current President, Muhammadu Buhari, what to do. He also has an unofficial status of the nation’s untouchable grandfather.
♦ In addition to the accusations mentioned above, his untouchable status becomes more obvious, if you consider this. The authorities never investigated numerous rumors of fraud surrounding his persona. But rumors are just rumors. Although in 2007, he was actually brought to the court for alleged illegal activities with his 16 foreign bank accounts. In 2009, he was cleared of all charges.
♦ His net worth is up to ₦10 trillion, which makes him one of the richest (if not THE richest) politicians in Nigeria. He achieved this wealth by owning hundreds of hectares of land, numerous properties and businesses, which include TVC Radio Continental and Oando Oil (which is managed by his younger brother).
So there you have it, all of the important information about Bola Tinubu and his children collected in one article!
