Editor’s note: Since 1999 imposition of candidates for political offices by political parties has become an order of the day. From the former ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the current ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), there were cases of candidates being imposed on people each time there was an election. Recently, Lagos state chapter of APC held local government election primaries but the rather than allow delegates to vote for their respective candidates, the party hierarchy was said to resort to imposition of candidates as an alternative to primary election.
In this article, a ZENITHBLOG.com partner blogger, Ogungbade Olawale writes about the recently held local government election primaries in Lagos and explains what he observed in Alimosho local government, the largest local government in Nigeria.
“Alimosho electioneering processes within and between political parties have always been nightmare and bizarrely experienced. For the fact there is no strongly structured opposition, this has made the ruling party in Alimosho play their politics both dirty and rough. Imposition is the order of the day and credible candidates are either asked to step down or rig out of the game.
“The political office holders in the largest local government in Nigeria (Alimosho) have always been orchestrated to favour the interest of the microscopic few within the ruling party, at the expense of the entire 6 million inhabitants, which mostly translate to mismanagement and maladministration.

“AYDAN has taken this as a point of duty to expose all undemocratic activities of all political parties in including the ruling party; this is to allay the notion that AYDAN is a political organization or association playing out the script of some political heavyweights in Alimosho.

“It has always been reiterated that AYDAN stands for two main objectives; to contribute toward youth and community development and as Advocate for good governance, the later has been the reason, why we have been the frontier in the liberation of Alimosho from the shackle and manacle of egoistic political leaders.
“It is not out of place to have decision makers within a party, but when egocentric nonentities have a say in this decision making caucus, the progressive party members must contest or protest the choice of candidates made by these decision makers because, such candidates are more likely to end up being stooges.
“Sadly, this is the lamentable situation the members of the ruling party in Mosan-Okunola are likely to be subjected to if Alhaji Yisau Yusuf a.k.a Alhaji YY is allowed to impose Mrs. Olabisi Adebajo (ABISCO) an imported candidates whose husband is currently serving as the Executive chairman in Yemoje LCDA in Ogun state under the Auspices of Governor Ibikunle Amosun.
“This is another logical question that we want Nigerians to answer ,is it humanly and constitutionally right for a husband and the wife to be the Executive Chairman of different Local Government or Local Council Development Area , in two different state in same party at the same time?.
“If Alhaji Yisau Yussuf (YY) aspirant Olabisi Adebajo (ABISCO) is popular as being claimed, why did she induce delegates alongside Mrs Rebecca Onasanya (Mama Party) for an oath taken with cutlass, Bible & Koran and cash against the will of the people of Mosan-Okunola LCDA?
“Alhaji Yisau Yussuf on several occasions tried to forcefully disenfranchise other aspirant from contesting with his choice candidate. On 2nd of May, Alhaji YY, a plank seller, a politician, announced Mrs. Olabisi Adebajo, (ABISCO), out of the many chairmanship aspirants, as the anointed candidate that must solely pick nomination form while others like Hon. Ayo Orimolade and Hon.
“Abiodun Falade shouldn’t bother to waste their money buying forms because according to him, there is no way they would emerge victorious if at all they both go into the primary against Mrs. Olabisi Adebajo, he even boasted that, Chief Henry Ajomale the Lagos State APC Chairman and Ogbeni Rauf
“Mosan-Okunola is currently in the hand of a dictator who has been working against the development of the Local Council Development Area, that want to continuously loot the common wealth of Mosan-Okunola.
“From our investigation, we were able to gather that Alhaji YY collected whopping sum of 9 million naira from Mrs. Olabisi Adebajo (ABISCO), before he could throw his weight behind her candidacy.

“Alhaji YY has successfully found a perfect stooge in Mrs. Olabisi Adebajo (ABISCO), with her being the next chairman of Mosan-Okunola LCDA, his looting of the LCDA revenue for instance, Mosan-Okunola has over 1500 Okada operators, Alhaji YY is in charge of the collection of the revenue from these Okada riders, the LCDA is expected to be generating over 3.5 million monthly from this business venture, but instead Alhaji YY is remitting just a token of 120,000 to the LCDA and many more criminal activities he has successfully perpetrated with the support of the Sole Administrator Hon. Rotimi Ogunwuyi.
“To ensure his parochial interests are not threatened, helpless excos of the party have been subjected to both undemocratic and diabolic experiences, of which some are listed:
1. Delegates were forced to take oath on several occasions against their will to ensure they support Alhaji YY anointed candidate Mrs. Olabis Adebajo (ABISCO).
2. On several occassion, Alhaji Yisau Yussuf (YY) alongside Mrs Rebecca Onasanya the Chairman of the Party in the area have threatened delegates that there delegateship will be revoke if they fail to do their bidding.
3. And the peak of it was the kangagroo press briefing that was covered by Television continental TVC stage-managed to portray Mrs. Olabisi Adebajo as the popular candidate, of which reserve is the case.
“In a democratic dispensation, all the aforementioned are unfortunate situations that if not being addressed in Mosan-Okunoa LCDA and Alhaji YY being put to check, nepotism and mediocrity will continue to hinder the proper development of Mosan-Okunola LCDA and anarchy is closer than we think in Mosan-Okunola LCDA.

“We thereby called on all the delegates that have been involved in this ungodly and diabolical act not to be disturbed as God will definitely vindicate them.
“We also call on the people of Mosan Okunola LCDA to be calm and maintain their good citizenship as a law abiding citizens, while we keep our ear open for the party decision on the outcome of the Primary election.
“We will continue to speak the mind of the 6 millon inhabitants of Alimosho until desired developmental result is achieved. “Development is our Priority.”
