– NPA pensioners have carried out a protest in Maria, Lagos state
– The protest was held in demands of their rights and benefits
– Reports suggest that inefficiencies at the ports, are costing Nigeria the loss of about N1trillion annually
A Facebook user named Oludamilare Kolawale Dan, has share a photo post of what he experience at the Marina area of Lagos state.
Dan shared photos of a protest by the Nigerian Port Authority pensioners at Marina, on Tuesday, March 15.
He went on to dig into the situation on ground and this is what he found.
His post reads: “I took these pictures of the Nigerian Port Authority pensioners at Marina this morning. They are demanding their rights and benefits.
Pardon me if I end up sounding a little emotional about this. But we all do know that the Port Authority is one of the most corrupt sectors in the country, with records of top officials making away with billions of Naira annually.
“A news report on Today News magazine of January 18, 2017, published that October 2016 findings identified corruption, which is closely linked to the inefficiencies at the ports, as costing Nigeria the loss of about N1trillion annually.
My aim is not to report what we already know, or to even talk about these ageing Nigerians who should be having a well-deserved rest from a life spent working for the government; my aim is to talk to the Nigerian youths.
“Think about this for a minute—and please do not call God; these ones here were far more religious than you’re now when they were young, and no pastor had the right to spend their money on booties. They had respected jobs and worked hard.
These are the few healthy ones who could stand now, raise their voice and agitate—much more aren’t here because they are sick.
Just ‘Get Out’ a second and think about this. Think about your future in this country; think about the unending lies by the government; think about your children or your proposed family; if you can arrive at a conclusion without illusions or putting hopes where there is none; if you can arrive at a rational decision.
Then you should understand why your place as a youth of a nation is to use your strength to right wrongs in your immediate society; you should be out there protesting the many atrocities of a government.”
