Suspected Fulani herdsmen have reportedly struck in Delta state and killed a farmer who was trying to protect his farm and crops from their animals.

The 50-year-old staff of the Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, who is also a farmer was Mr Sunday Idama.

He was killed at his cassava farmland in Ovre-Abraka community, Ethiope East local government area of the state. Mr Idama, had three wives and 14 children.

He had was on his way to his farm, last Friday, March 24, to mount surveillance after discovering that herdsmen were allegedly constantly uprooting his cassava and feeding their cows with them.

It was gathered that Idama, on his way to the farm with his motorcycle encountered the herdsmen and challenged them.

They reportedly attacked with machetes, inflicting cuts on his hand, leg and face. The injuries led to his death.

According to Vanguard, the police have confirmed the killing. DSP Andrew Aniamaka, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), said that the police evacuated the remains to Ufuoma Clinic in the area for autopsy and investigations were on by detectives to unmask the killers, no matter their status.

Meanwhile, ZENITHBLOG.com recently reported that about 60 people have died following separate attacks by herdsmen in Benue state as suspected Fulani herdsmen have continued to plague agrarian communities in Benue.

Governor Ortom has declared that all Fulani herdsmen must leave the state with immediate effect and a special team of policemen have landed in Benue to put an end to the menace.
