The comptroller general of Nigeria Prisons Service Ja’afaru Ahmed on Monday, March 27, ordered the removal of two prison officers over the recent release of a former governor of Adamawa state Bala Ngilari.
Ahmed ordered that the official be removed from their positions at the Yola Prisons with immediate effect.
The duo – Abubakar Abaka, a deputy controller of prison and John Bukar, a nurse and superintendent of prison – were said to have authored the medical report that was used by Ngilari for his bail application.

The CG’s letter which was delivered by the Zone C coordinator of the NPS Bala Isogogo said the officials will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
A. B. Salihu on behalf of Isogogo said the NPS is shocked by the action of the duo.
ZENITHBLOG.com gathered that the two officers would be moved to Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city for necessary discipline and as a deterrent to other officials.
While Salihu did not specify the punishment for the erring officers, he said, the nurse acting on the DCP Abaka issued a medical report to the Adamawa state High Court claiming that Ngilari was gravely ill and would require medical treatment in a Canadian Hospital in the United Arab Emirates.
“It is obvious that by training and competence, neither the nurse (John Bukar) nor DCP Abubakar Abaka is qualified to originate such report/recommendations,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, the public relations officer of the NPS Francis Enobore told Vanguard that the comptroller general has ordered a thorough investigation into the scam to enable the service deal decisively with the perpetrators of the crime.
“This is to bring to the attention of all Nigerians that the Comptroller General of the NPS, Mr. Ja’afaru Ahmed, neither authorized the issuance of the said letter to the judge to release the convicted former governor nor was he briefed on the matter.
“Accordingly, the C-G has ordered the querying and suspension of all the officials involved in the embarrassing action so as to take necessary disciplinary actions against them,” Enobore said.
