Abbas Ope, a 24-year-old driver has reportedly confessed to stealing his former boss’ car, dog and television to feed his siblings and make them enjoy the Christmas that was recently celebrated across the world.

Arrested at the Ojuelegba area of Lagos by the Decoy Team of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on Boxing Day while trying to sell the car, a Toyota Avensis 2013 model marked AGL 734 AR for N2 million, Ope was said to have stormed the Magodo home of his former boss, Ifoghale Ekinodo, while he and his family were in Delta for the holiday and took away the car, the dog and the 100-inch television.
He was arrested with his friends, Balogun Oluwaseun, 23, Sanni Azeez, 23 and Stephen Ewiele, 22.
Apart from these, he reportedly took away another 42-inch LCD TV, a suitcase, and two DSTV decoders.
The suspect, according to The Nation, knew where his former boss kept the keys to the house. This made it easy for him to gain access into the apartment.

Ekinodo, it was learnt, had to cut short his holiday in Delta with his family to report the incident at the Magodo Police station after the suspect denied awareness of the incident.
The RRS quoted Abass as saying: “I took the car because I had no money to take care of myself and younger ones. They had no clothes, no shoes and this is Yuletide season. They looked up to me to take care of these expenses.
“It was about three months now that I left Mr Ekinodo. I had worked for him for four
“I left because he had a little challenge and things were pretty tough for him. I left so that he could have himself sorted out.
“He was a very nice boss to work with. He enrolled me into university but I couldn’t continue the education when I left him.

“While he had this challenge, he owed me eight months salary; this prompted me to take his property and the vehicle.
“The auto dealer wanted to pay N2 million for the car but I insisted on N4 Million because I know it is worth more than that.
“He offered me N1million instantly and that the balance would be ready in about few minutes time, but I decided to ignore the offer hoping that the dealer would call me back for a re-negotiation.
“I went back to Ojuelegba few hours later in company of three of my friends, that was when RRS operatives arrested us.”
He expressed shock that he could be robbed by the same person he trusted and who helped him with his shopping while he was preparing to travel.
He revealed that he took good care of the young man and provided him with most of the things he needed while with him.

Ope’s arrest was confirmed by the spokesperson of the police in Lagos, Dolapo Badmos, who also urged residents to look at the backgrounds of those they employ.
According to her, Ope and his friends have been transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Yaba, for further investigation.
