Despite the exit of former Gambian president Yahya Jammeh, who fled to Guinea Saturday night, January 21, West African troops have entered the country.
Coalition forces of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) who have been on stand by in Senegal moved into Gambia with a view to securing strategic positions.
According to journalist and Human Rights activist, MamaLinguere Sarr, there was a standoff as soldiers at the State House negotiated to hand over to the ECOWAS forces after arrival.
Meanwhile guards at statehouse are looting furniture, computers and cars belonging to the state.
