Some people worship corrupt people like heroes because they are their kinsmen – Osinbajo

– Professor Yemi Osinbajo expressed sadness over the growing spate of corruption in the country.

– The vice president called for anti-corruption agencies to work on people’s mentality

Professor Yemi Osinbajo has lamented the celebration of corrupt people as heroes just because they are their kinsmen.

The Punch reports that the vice president made this remark when he received members of the Presidential Advisory committee Against Corruption led by Professor Itse Sagay on Tuesday, January 10.

In a statement released by Laolu Akande who is the senior special assistant on media and publicity to the vice president, Osinbajo said some people feel corruption is acceptable if committed by their kinsmen.

He urged all anti-corruption agencies

in the country to change public perception about corruption.

“How we communicate what is going on regarding corruption is important. There are still those who think a politician who steals, is some kind of Robin Hood, instead of being vilified.

“Some people believe that if ‘my kinsman steals it is ok.’ It is important to completely delegitimise corruption especially through the way it is communicated.”

Osinbajo applauded the committee for their work which shows anti-corruption initiative can work well in the country.
