As the reality of the Nigerian situation continues to dawn on its citizens, marketers in Kano state have increased the price of premium motor spirit, also called petrol, from N145 to between N153 and N155 per litre.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the situation is even worse outside the state capital with the marketers selling above N155.
The price of petrol has reportedly skyrocketed in Kano
The report said many filling stations remained closed on Monday, January 23, 2017 while the few stations that have the products had long queues.

The report further said the partial scarcity affected socio-economic activities around the state.
While the queue continues to build up, black marketers in the city are said to have taken the advantage of the situation and are now selling the product for between N750 and N900 for four litres.
According to the report, the situation started on Friday, January 20 when marketers reportedly shut down business in anticipation of fuel price increase.
The report said the chairman of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association (IPMAN), Alhaji Bashir Dan-Malam, could not be reached for his reaction.

Spokesperson of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) in Kano state, Paul Jehzi, condemned the development saying a task force had been instituted to check hoarding and sale of fuel above the approved price of N145 per litre.
