Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state has expressed confidence that the prevailing peace in the creeks of the Niger Delta would be sustained.
His belief is predicated on the fact that for over a month, the rampaging militants had gone to roost, though there are threats of renewed bombing as President Muhammadu Buhari is yet to meet the region’s demands.

The fear of renewed bombing compelled the Delta state Deputy Governor Kingsley Otuaro, to plead with the militants a few days agone to sheath their swords and wait for the promises of the federal government.

But Governor Okowa, while receiving the Ambassador of the United States to Nigeria, Stuart Syminton in his office at the Delta Government House on Thursday, assured that the current fragile peace would be sustained.

“We are looking forward to a peaceful and progressive 2017,” adding that it is in the collective interest of all stakeholders for the peace to be sustained in the region.

While commending the government of the United States for doing business in Nigeria, especially in Delta state, Okowa assured investors that Delta state is safe for business, observing that the people are friendly and accommodating to visitors.
Earlier, the ambassador, who was accompanied by top embassy officials, disclosed that they were in the state to see how to deepen their business relationship with the people of Delta state.
