Residents of Kontagora, Niger state on Thursday, January 26, staged a protest over poor electricity service.

The protesters have taken over the streets due to the fact the have not had light for almost two months.

The people carried placards with “No light, No pay”, “No service No Pay” and chanted solidatry songs.

Over 75% of Nigerians still live without having access to regular supply of electricity despite the massive investments made in the energy sector since the sector was privatized.

The few that enjoy a regular supply of electricity are found in the urban areas of the country while those in the rural areas have less access to the power grid.
