Speaker of the Delta state house of assembly, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has denied the claim that he bribed Urhobo traditional rulers with N10million as part of moves to secure their support for an alleged senatorial ambition in the coming 2019 general elections.
In a facebook post by one Elsie Halima Ijorogu-Reed, she alleged that Oborevwori, the newly elected speaker of the state house of assembly used money meant for payment of local government workers to bribe Urhobo traditional rulers, alleging further that the money was meant to secure his senatorial bid for 2019.
Ijorogu-Reed also alleged that the speaker reportedly carried out the action during a meeting with monarchs, noting that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of the state is allegedly pushing for the speaker’s ambition.

But speaking through his chief press secretary, Dennis Otu, the speaker said the issue raised by Ijorogu-Reed was false and exaggeration of the highest order.

Otu told ZENITHBLOG.com that the speaker went to introduce himself to the traditional rulers in his constituency having emerged speaker of the state house of assembly after the impeachment of the former speaker.
He went to seek guidance and prayers from the monarchs pledging his loyalty and readiness to consult them from time to time.
According to him: “There is nothing like that. It is not true. Everybody knows Elsie Halima Ijorogu-Reed in Delta. That is her stock in trade. She sees nothing good in anything somebody does.

“Mr. Speaker is just a first timer in the house, just serving first term, how is it that he will just leave and rush to senate. It is not so. He went to introduce himself to his traditional rulers from Delta central area where he hails from.
“He never bribed any traditional ruler. There was nothing like that. That statement is malicious and exaggeration of the highest order.”
