– The secret police also said similar attacks were planned for Kano, Sokoto, Kaduna and Maiduguri
The Department of State Services has raised alarm over the plan by some members of Boko Haram terrorist group to attack Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria.
The secret police said the group members have planned to launch the attack today, June 23, by infiltrating the ranks of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria popularly known as Shittes in Abuja and some of the cities in the North like Kano, Sokoto, Kaduna and Maiduguri.
In a statement released by Tony Opuiyo, the DSS said the terrorists planned to join the Shiites in their procession and unleash mayhem in the city.

“This is in an attempt to assume a formidable cover to unleash violence and evoke a complete state of chaos in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja during the group’s Qudus Day Procession/Rally scheduled for today (23/06/2017) in Abuja and several States in the Northern parts of the country,” Opuiyo said.
The secret police also said similar attacks were planned for Kano, Sokoto, Kaduna and Maiduguri
Opuiyo also warned members of the IMN to desist from carrying out any form of demonstration as the terrorists will make use of the opportunity for their attacks.

He also called on all Nigerians to remain vigilant before, during and after Sallah
“The Service is working, in concert with other security agencies, to ensure that no section of the country is attacked during and after the Sallah celebrations. Law abiding citizens and residents are not only assured of their safety but enjoined to go about their normal businesses without fear of attack. It pledges to engage all stakeholders to ensure a hitch free Eid-el-fitr festival across the country.
In another development, Opuiyo said the secret police has arrested Yusuf Adamu and Abdulmumin Haladu who were drafted to carrying out the operations in kano.
The duo, the DSS said were arrested in Sokoto.

“However, the Service had earlier arrested the facilitator of the Kano attack, an explosive expert by name Bashir Mohammed at Unguwar Barnawa, Shekar Madaki, Kumbatso LGA, Kano state on 20th June, 2017. Their plan, together with others now at large, was to assemble the explosives and use them on select targets during the Eid-el-Fitr Celebrations.
Opuiyo said a search operation carried out at the residence of Mohammed in kano led to the discovery of eight Ak-47 riffles, 20 fully loaded Ak-47 magazines, 27 hand grenades, 739 rounds of live ammunition and one gas cylinder.
Other recoveries include: three laptops, one GSM phone, one Lifan motorcycle, a Honda vice car (ash coloured) and one printer.
