The cattle breeders association has apologized for the killing of Benue residents by herdsmen

The national coordinator of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) Garus Gololo has apologized to Nigerians and Benue resident over the recent killing by herdsmen in the state.

Gololo said such acts by Fulani herdsmen is unacceptable and could have been avoided.

Last week over 10 people weer killed in Buruku local government area of Benue state by suspected herdsmen.

Speaking at a meeting with some stakeholders in Makurdi, Gololo said MACBAN will ensure that the perpetrators be brought to justice.

He also said the association is seeking lasting solution to ending herdsmen and farmers crisis various states in Nigeria.

“It has never been our intention to attack our host communities unfortunately some unscrupulous elements masterminded the attack to create problems for us,” Gololo said.

We condemn that attack and we are sorry for what happened. Given our determination to ensure peaceful coextensive wherever we live, the head of the Fulanis in that area will probably have to explain to us why the situation degenerated to that level,” he said.

He also expressed the willingness of members

of MACBAN to resort to ranching to stop the unending clashes between farmers and herdsmen.

He further called on private investors to take the lead in establishing the facility across the country.

Also speaking, the commissioner of police in the state Bashir Makama said there is a need to conduct search on herdsmen with the increase in clashes in Nigeria.

Makama said the search will also help disarm the herdsmen in the state.

He also lamented the recurrent clashes in the state despite efforts by security operatives prevent the crisis.

ZENITHBLOG.com gathered that the police commissioner who organized the meeting urged Nigerians and members of the peace and security committees comprising leaders of herdsmen and farmers at the local government areas to wake up to their duties.

Meanwhile, the Benue state governor Samuel Ortom has banned herdsmen and their activities in the state.

Ortom ban on herdsmen came after various crisis between the herders and farmers in many communities in Benue state.

Most of the crisis has resulted to the killing of many and destruction of properties.
