Troops arrest Boko Haram suspect with N1.3m cash

Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested a Boko Haram terrorist identified as Ari Arimaye, who was in possession of N1,264,000 and CFA 160,000 cash in Banki area, Borno state.

According to a report on The Punch, Arimaye, who said he came from Bula-Urami village, was apprehended by troops of the Operation Lafiya Dole, when he was about to enter the Internally Displaced Persons camp in the area.

The N1,264,000 and CFA 160,000 cash was concealed in a black sack.

It was also gathered that a 27-year-old suspected Boko Haram member, Hassan Adamu, was arrested by troops in Mafa town while wandering in the bush.

Adamu, who confessed to belong to the sect, said he was tired of its ideology and decided to find his way back to the town.

Addressing newsmen, Theatre Commander Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj. Gen. Lucky Irabor said Arimaye disguised as an IDP to gain access into the camp.

He stated that when he was searched, the money was found on him and interrogation later showed that he was a Boko Haram terrorist.

He said: “The suspect was arrested on February 21 at about 4.30pm. The sum of N1,264,000 and CFA160,000 were found in his possession, concealed in a black sack.

“Also, our troops deployed in Mafa intercepted Adamu while he was trying to infiltrate the town.

“Some locals, fetching firewood, informed the troops that the suspect was roaming the bush.

“The suspect has confessed to be a member of the Boko Haram. He noted that he was tired of its ideology and wanted to surrender.

“Both cases are undergoing investigation while the suspects are in our custody.”

Meanwhile, the Operation Lafiya Dole Theatre Command said it rescued 7, 898 persons in its anti-terrorism operations in the North-East between February 2 and March 1.

Maj.-Gen. Lucky Irabor, said this while addressing newsmen in Maiduguri on Wednesday, March 1.
